Prem Chopra
Prem Chopra is basically the guy who made being a villain cool in Hindi cinema. With over 380 films under his belt across more than six decades, this Lahore-born legend became the face of antagonists from the 1960s through the 1990s—think menacing stares, perfectly timed dialogues, and the kind of screen presence that made you actually believe he was the bad guy. His breakthrough came with Shaheed in 1965, but it was Bobby (1973) that gave him that immortal line "Prem naam hai mera, Prem Chopra" that still gets quoted everywhere. He teamed up with Rajesh Khanna in over 20 films, creating some serious on-screen chemistry despite playing opposite ends of the moral spectrum. What's impressive is how he didn't get stuck in just one lane—Chopra smoothly pivoted from villainous roles to character and comic parts as Hindi cinema evolved, proving he could hold his own in any role. What sets Prem Chopra apart is his ability to make every character memorable, whether he was playing the ruthless antagonist or the witty supporting player. He's worked across different eras and styles of cinema, adapting seamlessly while maintaining that magnetic screen presence fans loved. Beyond acting, he's contributed to Bollywood's culture and philanthropy, even penning his autobiography Prem Naam Hai Mera, Prem Chopra in 2014. His continued work in films and television into the 21st century shows he never really left the game, and in 2023, he received the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award—a well-deserved recognition for someone who shaped how we think about villains in Indian cinema.
