Review
What we have here is a familiar Bollywood template dressed up in period clothing—the star-crossed lovers, the family vendetta, the hidden truth waiting to be unearthed. *Nishana* doesn't break any new ground in the romance-thriller space, but it executes its formula with enough earnestness to keep you engaged for stretches. The premise hinges on a 25-year-old conspiracy that Raja must methodically dismantle, and there's a certain pleasure in watching the pieces fall into place, even if the dramatic timing occasionally stumbles. The performances are competent without being transcendent; what the film needed was a stronger directorial hand to elevate the melodrama beyond its comfortable, predictable rhythms. The court revelations and family confrontations arrive exactly when we expect them to, robbing the narrative of genuine shock value.
Where *Nishana* falters most is in its treatment of tone and pacing. The romance between Kavita and Raja feels obligatory rather than organic—two attractive people meeting in a forest, falling in love, then being kept apart by circumstance. We've seen this pas de deux countless times, and without snappier dialogue or unexpected character moments, it reads as functional. The film's second half, which should crackle with investigative momentum, instead drags through explanations and scheme-layering that could have been tightened considerably. Director's previous work has shown middling consistency, and *Nishana* doesn't represent a leap forward
Storyline
Janki Devi, wife of the wealthy Thakur Pratap Singh, finds herself in serious trouble when the scheming Diwanji tries to snatch the precious Rajkamal Necklace—a sacred heirloom meant for royalty. She manages to escape his clutches and secretly hands the necklace to an Adivasi, instructing him to place it on the goddess statue and guard it with his life. But tragedy strikes when Surya Prakash, a noble friend trying to rescue Janki Devi, is brutally murdered by Diwanji, who then frames him for the kidnapping and theft!
What follows is decades of bitter conflict between the two once-friendly dynasties, with Surya Prakash's name dragged through the mud. Fast forward 25 years: Kavita (daughter of Thakur Pratap Singh) and Raja (son of the wronged Surya Prakash) meet during a forest trip and instantly fall head over heels for each other. But when her father discovers Raja's true identity, he absolutely forbids their marriage, convinced that Raja's family are nothing but thieves and murderers!
Raja becomes a man on a mission to clear his father's name and prove his innocence to Kavita's family once and for all. Through clever schemes and relentless determination, he uncovers the truth buried beneath 25 years of lies—exposing Diwanji's treachery and revealing where the Rajkamal Necklace actually rests. The revelation shatters the false narrative, the families reconcile, and true love finally triumphs over ancestral hatred!
