Review

6.1/10Critic Score

Ahankaar attempts an earnest meditation on sacrifice and silent heroism, anchored by a genuinely compelling premise—a mute protagonist whose integrity becomes his greatest weapon. The film's narrative architecture is structurally sound, with a clear three-act progression that moves from establishment to moral crisis to redemption, and the central performance delivers on the emotional weight such a role demands. Director's choice to make communication a visual language rather than a narrative crutch shows intent, and there are sequences where this restraint genuinely lands. However, the execution falters in pacing and character depth; the supporting cast, particularly Surya's descent into criminality, feels rushed and manipulated rather than earned, making what should be the film's emotional climax feel more like plot obligation. The social commentary on class mobility and factory politics gets lost in melodrama, and several pivotal confrontations rely on convenience rather than character logic.

What ultimately undermines Ahankaar is its conflation of nobility with narrative inevitability. Prabhat's decision to nominate his brother for promotion is presented as virtue, but the film never interrogates whether this is self-sacrifice or a failure to act in his own interest—a nuance that could elevate the material beyond conventional sentiment. The climactic sequences have punch, and the film's financial performance (₹5.32Cr with +136% ROI) suggests it found its audience in small

Storyline

Prabhat's world gets turned upside down when a tragic accident leaves him unable to speak, but this silent hero doesn't let that stop him! A kind factory owner gives him a real shot at life, and Prabhat becomes the backbone of his entire family—supporting his half-brother, sister, and step-mom while his dad cycles in and out of jail. He's loyal, hardworking, and genuinely good in a way that feels rare and real.

Then everything spirals when Prabhat uncovers a major crime ring threatening his boss and gets the criminals put away, earning himself a sweet promotion to manager. But here's where it gets wild—instead of keeping the promotion, Prabhat nominates his half-brother Surya for the job because he genuinely believes in him! It's almost too noble, and of course, the universe punishes him for it; he gets booted out on his behind.

The real storm hits when Surya gets tangled up with gangsters who manipulate him into committing fraud, and suddenly Prabhat's facing his biggest challenge yet. This silent man has to fight back against corruption and save his own brother from himself, and watching him battle through it with nothing but determination and integrity is absolutely gripping! It's a celebration of sacrifice, loyalty, and how sometimes the quietest people pack the loudest punch.
