Director
Dev Anand
Dev Anand, born Dharamdev Pishorimal Anand in 1923, was a true Bollywood icon who refused to fade away even as generations of actors came and went. His incredible six-decade career saw him star in over 100 films, working across multiple roles as an actor, director, writer, and producer through his production company Navketan Films. He burst onto the scene in 1946 with *Hum Ek Hain*, but it was the crime thriller *Baazi* (1951) that made him a household name and basically invented the "Bombay Noir" genre that defined Hindi cinema for years. From the early '50s through the '70s, he was consistently the lead in blockbuster after blockbuster — *Guide*, *Jewel Thief*, *Johny Mera Naam*, *Hum Dono* — proving he had staying power that few actors could match. The Government of India recognized his monumental contributions by awarding him the Padma Bhushan in 2001 and the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2002. What made Dev Anand special wasn't just his charisma on screen, but his versatility and willingness to experiment with different genres and storytelling styles. As a director and producer, he helped shape the evolution of Hindi cinema itself, consistently pushing boundaries and staying relevant even when younger stars dominated the marquee. His work in thrillers, dramas, and romantic films showed remarkable range, and he remained active in filmmaking right up until his death in 2011. The "Evergreen Star" nickname wasn't just a tag — it reflected how audiences of multiple generations connected with his work, proving that genuine talent and innovation never really go out of style in Bollywood.
