4/10Critic Score

"Speed" attempts to stitch together a romantic comedy with espionage thriller elements, but the seams show catastrophically. The premise—a lovesick NRI stumbling into an MI5 operation while reconnecting with his ex—has potential for clever genre-blending, yet director Harry Baweja (whose prior works average 5.5/10) executes it with all the finesse of a broken speedometer. The film oscillates wildly between Sandy's bumbling London romance and Sid's family-in-peril crisis, creating narrative whiplash rather than coherent momentum. The performances feel caught between tones: the lead actors deliver earnest romantic beats while the spy subplot demands gravitas neither the script nor direction provides. What should have been tense—kidnappings, threats to a child—registers as melodramatic padding between rom-com set pieces that land with diminishing returns.

The technical execution compounds these structural failures. The action sequences feel restrained, as though budgetary constraints (evident in the ₹1.58 crore nett collection, a catastrophic -82% ROI) forced compromises that neutered any espionage thrills. The chemistry between leads fails to compensate: their banter sounds recycled from better films, and the romantic resurrection arc never justifies why we should care about rekindling this relationship. Most damaging is how the film wastes its cross-border premise—a Pakistani cab driver befriending an Indian protagonist could have offered meaningful commentary on post-colonia

Storyline

So there's this Indian guy named Sandy who flies into London hoping to win back his ex-girlfriend Sanjana, and he ends up making friends with a Pakistani cab driver along the way. Meanwhile, there's this secret agent chef named Sid who seems like a normal guy but is actually working for MI5. One day Sid gets called in because some agent overseas managed to send out a mysterious coded message before getting killed, and nobody knows what it means yet.

Things get crazy when Sid's wife gets kidnapped by this villain named Kabir Khan, and he threatens Sid to do whatever he wants or else his family gets hurt. By total accident, Richa reaches out to Sandy for help while she's in danger, and even though the cops don't take him seriously at first, Sandy decides to step up and assist her anyway. Now Sandy is caught up in this whole dangerous situation where he's trying to protect Sid's family while also being near Sanjana again.

The situation spirals when Kabir starts going after Sid's young son Bobby as well, putting pressure on everyone involved. Sandy and Sanjana race to try and get to the school before something terrible happens, but Kabir's already making his move. Everything comes down to this intense day in London where multiple people's lives are at stake, and Sandy finds himself in the middle of this high-stakes battle against dangerous criminals.
