Guruji's crusade against societal ills—drug addiction, women's exploitation—arrives with admirable thematic ambition, yet the film squanders its premise through heavy-handed execution and melodramatic contrivance. Director Anurag Kashyap's approach trades nuance for sermonizing; the antagonists are cartoonishly villainous, existing solely as obstacles rather than complex representations of systemic corruption. The narrative framework—spiritual leader versus shadowy conspirators—feels recycled from countless vigilante thrillers, and the screenplay fails to explore the ideological or philosophical dimensions that could elevate this material beyond surface-level social commentary. Storyline

So there's this spiritual guy named Guru who's got tons of followers and he's basically on a mission to clean up society. He's taking on all these major problems like drug addiction and the treatment of women that have been plaguing communities for way too long. He's really committed to making real change happen.

The thing is, there are people out there who benefit from keeping things exactly as they are, and they're getting pretty nervous about this guy actually making a difference. These folks who profit from corruption and social problems don't want someone coming in and disrupting their whole operation. Things start getting tense as they realize their interests are being threatened.

These threatened enemies start plotting something serious against Guru because they see him as a real threat to their power and money. The situation gets pretty dangerous and dramatic as these forces work behind the scenes to try to stop him from continuing his work. It becomes clear that his mission isn't going to be easy or safe.
