4.8/10Critic Score

"Four Pillars of Basement" attempts psychological thriller territory but stumbles under the weight of its own narrative ambitions. The premise—a woman trapped in a basement on Diwali night with a security guard whose motives turn sinister—has genuine potential for tension, yet the execution feels rushed and underdeveloped. Director struggles to maintain momentum across the runtime, relying too heavily on the claustrophobic setting rather than character depth or psychological complexity. The performances, particularly in the second half, lack the nuance required to sustain a thriller of this nature; what should be a cat-and-mouse game between Riya and Samir instead plays as contrived and predictable, undermining any genuine threat the narrative might have carried.

The film's ₹0.27 crore collection and catastrophic -73% ROI reflect audience reception that aligns with critical shortcomings—this is fundamentally a film that fails to engage either intellectually or emotionally. Dialogues feel stilted, the revelations lack impact, and the dynamic between protagonist and antagonist never achieves the psychological credibility a confined-space thriller demands. While the singular-location setup could have been an asset, forcing creative direction and tight scripting, it instead becomes a liability that exposes narrative thinness. There's a kernel of a decent thriller buried here, but it's buried deeper than any of the basement secrets the film attempts to unveil.

Rating: 4.8/10

Storyline

So basically, Riya gets trapped in this basement on Diwali night, and she's pretty much alone down there. It's a pretty intense situation since everyone's upstairs celebrating the festival while she's stuck below. The whole vibe is claustrophobic and creepy, especially since she's got no idea how she even ended up locked in.

Then this security guard named Samir shows up, and at first Riya thinks he's going to be her savior, right? Like, finally someone who can help her get out of this nightmare situation. But things take a really twisted turn when she realizes that Samir isn't actually there with good intentions.

The whole dynamic between these two becomes super suspicious and dangerous pretty quickly. You're sitting there wondering what's really going on, what Samir wants, and how Riya's going to handle this terrifying predicament she's found herself in. It's one of those films where you don't know who to trust or what's going to happen next.
