Rajshree Ojha's "Dolly Ki Doli" attempts a clever inversion of the heist-romance formula, positioning its protagonist as a matrimonial scammer rather than a reformed criminal seeking redemption through love. The premise—a woman who systematically defrauds grooms—carries provocative potential, but the execution falters between tonal confusion and narrative contrivance. Sonam Kapoor delivers an energetic performance with moments of genuine charm, though her character's motivations remain frustratingly underdeveloped; we're asked to empathize with a serial fraudster without adequate exploration of her circumstances. The chemistry between Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao crackles occasionally, but their romance feels mechanically constructed rather than organically earned, functioning as plot convenience rather than character catalyst.

What fundamentally undermines the film is its unwillingness to fully commit to its morally gray premise. The narrative hedges constantly—building sympathy for Dolly while simultaneously asking us to root for her capture, ultimately settling for a resolution that attempts emotional payoff without genuine consequence. Abhay Deol's supporting turn provides reliable screen presence, but even competent supporting work cannot salvage a script that mistakes busyness for storytelling. The comedy lands unevenly, and the heist sequences, while colorful, lack the precision or wit necessary to generate sustained entertainment. For a film banking on the novelty of its

Storyline

So basically, this movie is about this girl Dolly who's basically a professional scammer. She targets wealthy guys, marries them, and then disappears with all their money on their wedding night – and her whole family's in on it with her! She's been pulling off these heists for a while and gets famous enough that the media starts calling her the "bride thief." It's honestly wild how brazen she is about the whole thing.

Then this police officer named Robin gets assigned to catch her, and things get complicated when she accidentally gets caught on camera trying to con some innocent guy from Delhi. She has to lay low for a few months because her face is all over the news, but eventually she and her crew resurface to target this rich guy who just came back from abroad. That's when Robin finally manages to arrest her, but here's where it gets interesting – turns out these two have history together, and there's way more to Dolly's story than just being a criminal mastermind.

Without giving away what happens next, let's just say their connection is way deeper than anyone expected, and things don't go down the way you'd typically think they would in a police versus criminal situation. The ending has some surprises that really make you think about whether Dolly's actually going to change her ways or if she's just too deep in the con game to ever leave it behind!
