Review
Benazir attempts to unpack the moral contradictions lurking beneath the surface of upper-class facades, a premise with genuine dramatic potential. However, the execution falters considerably. The film trades in melodramatic contrivances—the perfectly timed discovery of affairs, the conveniently revealing confrontations—rather than allowing character psychology to breathe. Director Ehasnas Usmani constructs his narrative around plot mechanics rather than emotional authenticity. The core tension between Nawab's hypocrisy (maintaining a mistress while demanding his brother's fidelity) and Anwar's entanglement could have yielded incisive commentary on masculine entitlement and social double standards, but instead the story opts for surface-level relationship drama that resolves through confession rather than genuine reckoning.
The performances largely serve the melodrama without transcending it. What emerges is a film that preaches authenticity while relying on contrived dramatic moments to propel its narrative forward—a fundamental contradiction that undermines its thematic ambitions. The climactic family reconciliation, framed as redemptive, glosses over the deeper questions of complicity and accountability that the premise raises. For audiences seeking nuanced exploration of marital infidelity and family dysfunction, Benazir offers platitudes masquerading as insight. The film needed either sharper satirical teeth or more introspective character work to justify its premise.
