Asit Sen

Asit Sen was a true character actor who carved out a legendary career spanning over four decades in Hindi cinema. Starting as an assistant to the legendary Bimal Roy in Kolkata, he made the pivotal move to Mumbai in the early 1950s when the film industry shifted its base. Though he briefly tried his hand at directing—helming two films, Parivar (1956) and Apradhi Kaun (1957)—Sen soon realized his true calling was in front of the camera. From 1953 until his death in 1993, he appeared in over 200 films, becoming one of the most recognizable faces in Hindi cinema. His career truly soared during the 1960s, 1970s, and early 1980s, making him a fixture in Bollywood during its golden era. What made Asit Sen unforgettable was his distinctive comedic style—he had mastered the art of playing authority figures like police inspectors, landlords, and bureaucrats, but always with a comedic twist that had audiences in splits.
