Vidya Balan carries Tumhari Sulu on her capable shoulders, delivering a performance that transcends the film's somewhat predictable narrative scaffold. Director Suresh Triveni crafts a genuinely heartfelt story about female agency and self-discovery, though the execution occasionally stumbles into territory that feels more inspirational poster than nuanced cinema. The late-night radio show premise provides an interesting backdrop for exploring marital dynamics and societal expectations, but the film leans heavily on sentimental beats rather than sharp character work. What works is the specificity of Sulu's world—the suburban ennui, the condescending sisters, the struggling husband—yet these elements often feel like checkboxes in a larger feel-good narrative rather than deeply examined social commentary.

The film's greatest strength lies in its refusal to paint Sulu's journey as effortless or consequence-free; her husband's initial resistance adds friction that prevents the story from becoming wholly saccharine. Balan's ability to convey both vulnerability and quiet strength makes the quieter scenes land with genuine emotional weight. However, the supporting cast remains largely one-dimensional, and the third act relies on convenient resolutions that undercut some of the complexity established earlier. Storyline

So there's this woman named Sulu living in the suburbs with her husband Ashok and their young son. She's a typical housewife who's pretty happy with her life, but deep down she really wants to have her own career and be more independent. The thing is, she didn't finish high school, so finding a proper job has been super difficult for her. To make things worse, her twin sisters are kind of snobby about it and look down on her. Meanwhile, her husband works at a tailoring company that's pretty stressful, and her son is having a rough time at school dealing with bullies.

Everything changes when Sulu enters a contest at her favorite radio station and actually wins! While she's there collecting her prize, she notices they're holding auditions for radio jockeys. Something just clicks for her, and she feels like this is the opportunity she's been waiting for. She decides to audition and ends up impressing the station manager with her personality and charm. The boss, Maria, sees potential in her and offers her a chance to host a late-night show where listeners call in to talk about their problems and get advice.

When Sulu tells her husband about the job, he's not thrilled at first since she didn't ask him beforehand. But from that point on, things start changing for their whole family in ways nobody expected. It's a really sweet story about finding your voice and discovering that it's never too late to chase your dreams.
