Review
There's a warmth to *Sweetiee Weds NRI* that feels genuinely rooted in family dynamics—the kind of affection you find in homes where love expresses itself through matchmaking schemes and gentle stubbornness. The film captures that very real tension between a father's unresolved past and a daughter's present, and there's real heart in watching Sweetiee navigate her father's obsession with marrying her off to an NRI while she remains blissfully unbothered by the whole affair. The Gujarati setting brings an authentic flavor, and the performances have moments of genuine charm, particularly in the family scenes where the humor doesn't feel forced. However, the script doesn't dig deep enough into what could have been a touching exploration of generational expectations—instead, it settles for a lighter touch that occasionally feels superficial. The direction lacks the nuance needed to make the father's character arc truly resonant, leaving what could be a profound emotional journey feeling more like a pleasant rom-com checklist.
What ultimately holds the film back is its reluctance to take risks with its own premise. We're given this fascinating setup—a father's deportation shame driving his desperation to see his daughter succeed where he failed—but the story treats it as comedic window dressing rather than genuine emotional scaffolding. Storyline
So there's this super fun Gujarati girl named Sweetiee who's about 22 and comes from a really rich family in Baroda. She's basically the carefree type who just enjoys life and doesn't take things too seriously. Her dad is this cheerful businessman guy who's absolutely obsessed with one thing – getting his daughter hitched to some Non-Resident Indian guy living in England.
The whole reason her dad is so fixated on finding her an NRI groom is pretty funny actually. Turns out he got deported from the UK years back, which was probably pretty embarrassing for him. So now he's determined to make it happen for his daughter as a way of settling some unfinished business with that whole situation.
It's basically a setup where this girl's dad has this wild mission to ship her off to England with a proper NRI husband. He's willing to do pretty much anything to make this marriage happen, and that's what sets the whole story in motion. Sweetiee just goes along with her father's dreams while being her usual cheerful, unbothered self.
