5.8/10Critic Score

Dibakar Banerjee's "Sonali Cable" attempts to blend a romance with a corporate underdog narrative, but the execution falters under the weight of its ambitious premise. Nyrika Singh carries the film with a spirited performance as the titular protagonist, embodying the grit required for a small-business owner fighting systemic corruption. However, the direction struggles to balance the intimate moments between Sonali and Raghu (played adequately by Vikrant Massey) with the larger socio-economic commentary about corporate monopolies crushing local enterprises. The film's heart lies in its premise—a young woman refusing to be pushed into submission—yet the storytelling becomes uneven, oscillating between romantic comedy beats and darker tragedy without finding a cohesive tonal center.

The narrative's turning point, the violent attack on Sonali's brother, should serve as the film's emotional and thematic anchor, but it lands with surprisingly little weight. Where the film could have explored the psychological toll of loss and the moral complexities of fighting back against entrenched power structures, it instead opts for a more conventional redemption arc. The climax, wherein Sonali exposes corporate wrongdoing and rebuilds her brother's legacy, feels rushed and undercooked—lacking the granular detail needed to make her victory feel earned rather than handed. Singh's commitment to the role prevents the film from becoming entirely forgettable, but a tighter screenplay and more nua

Storyline

So there's this girl named Sonali who runs a small internet cable business in Mumbai with her brother and a bunch of friends. Life's pretty normal until she goes to a newly opened police station to set up connections, and boom—she runs into Raghu, this guy she knew back in school who's now studied abroad. He actually remembers her and they end up falling for each other, which is pretty sweet.

But things take a dark turn when this massive corporate company called Shining moves into their territory and starts offering broadband services, basically crushing their small business. To make matters worse, some local goons attack their shop one night, and Sonali's brother gets seriously hurt. This tragedy completely changes Sonali's perspective and she becomes determined to fight back against the company that's been pushing them around.

What follows is basically an underdog story where Sonali decides to stand up against this huge corporation. She uncovers some serious corruption on their part and manages to turn things around. In the end, she honors her brother by opening a new cable shop under his name, and Raghu comes alongside her to support her both in business and life.
