Abhishek Dudhaiya's *Qayamat: City Under Threat* attempts to construct a high-stakes thriller on the scaffolding of a familiar hostage-rescue blueprint, and while the premise—a virus-laden missile threat holding Mumbai ransom—carries genuine menace on paper, the execution crumbles under the weight of narrative convenience and tonal inconsistency. Ajay Devgn delivers a serviceable performance as CBI officer Akram, though the character itself remains frustratingly underdeveloped; we're given fragments of moral ambiguity that never coalesce into compelling psychological depth. The supporting cast, including Atul Kulkarni as the mysteriously skilled Rachit, manages professional competence, but the film asks them to navigate dialogue that oscillates between exposition dumps and melodramatic declarations without ever finding natural rhythm. Dudhaiya's direction, averaging a 5.0 rating across his filmography, doesn't break that pattern here—sequences that should bristle with tension instead feel mechanically staged, and the 200-tourist hostage scenario is treated more as a plot device than a human tragedy demanding emotional weight.

Where *Qayamat* falters most critically is in its inability to reconcile its geopolitical ambitions with its formulaic execution. The Pakistani military antagonist and weaponized virus plot points invoke contemporary anxieties but are deployed without thematic sophistication; the film contents itself with surface-level jingoism rather than exploring the

Storyline

So basically, this honest CBI officer named Akram gets handed this crazy case involving three dangerous terrorists—two brothers and their girlfriend—who are all working for some shady Pakistani military guy. These bad guys are plotting something seriously twisted: they want to extort money from the Indian government, and they're working with a corrupt scientist to weaponize some deadly virus. The whole scheme is being orchestrated from overseas, and things are about to get really intense.

The terrorists manage to take over a jail in Mumbai and hold over 200 tourists hostage inside, including the girlfriend of a legitimate scientist. They've loaded missiles with this virus and are basically holding the city ransom, demanding 1500 crores from the government or they'll release the missiles into the water supply, which would be absolutely catastrophic for everyone. It's a race against the clock with the stakes couldn't be higher.

To handle this impossible situation, Akram decides to bring in Rachit, this mysterious guy who once managed to escape from the same jail in a way nobody thought was even possible. Rachit has been keeping to himself for years because of some tragic personal loss, but he might be the only person who can help navigate the insanely dangerous rescue operation from the inside. It's this tense setup where they're relying on someone with serious skills but also deep emotional wounds.
