Pratighaat

Review

6.2/10Critic Score

Pratighaat operates within a well-trodden Bollywood template—the righteous individual against systemic corruption—yet derives considerable energy from its commitment to that premise. The film's central conceit, a scholar transforming from victim to vigilante, carries genuine dramatic potential, and the director demonstrates competence in structuring the narrative arc from idealistic resistance to calculated retribution. The political corruption subplot feels deliberately granular rather than merely decorative, suggesting an intent to ground the revenge fantasy in observable institutional rot. However, the execution falters in nuance; what could have been a sophisticated examination of institutional failure devolves into more conventional action-thriller territory by the second half, where personal vendetta overshadows the social commentary that initially promises substance.

The lead performance anchors the film with conviction—there's a palpable shift from academic conviction to steely determination that mostly transcends the material. Where the film struggles is in portraying the antagonists with anything approaching dimensionality; the criminals and corrupt officials function as caricatures rather than obstacles that force genuine moral complexity onto our protagonist. The humiliation sequence, positioned as the narrative's crucible moment, is staged with visceral discomfort but yields to revenge plotting that feels emotionally satisfying rather than psychologically earned

Storyline

A brilliant college lecturer stumbles into a hornet's nest of political corruption and organized crime when she dares to speak out against the system! She's idealistic, sharp-tongued, and absolutely unafraid—exactly the kind of person who makes powerful people nervous. What starts as academic resistance quickly becomes personal when the criminals decide to teach her a lesson she'll never forget.

The establishment comes down on her like a ton of bricks, orchestrating a horrifying public humiliation that's meant to break her spirit completely! But instead of cowering, she transforms her shame into fuel—this woman is too fierce to stay down. She realizes that the courts and institutions designed to protect her are compromised, that the system itself is rotten to its core.

So she takes matters into her own hands, becoming a force of nature that these corrupt thugs never saw coming! What unfolds is a gripping tale of personal vengeance wrapped in social commentary—she's fighting not just for herself but for every person silenced by this nexus of power and crime. It's cathartic, it's bold, and it absolutely refuses to look away from the ugliness of corruption!
