Review
Navdeep A. Singh's *NH10* arrives as a visceral gut-punch that transcends the typical Bollywood thriller formula, anchoring itself in a grittier, more uncompromising realism than we typically see from mainstream Hindi cinema. The film eschews the sanitized violence of traditional action vehicles, instead opting for a raw, almost documentarian approach to its honor-killing narrative—one that feels uncomfortably authentic. Anushka Sharma delivers a career-defining performance as Meera, moving beyond her star persona to embody a woman stripped of privilege and forced into primal survival mode. Sharma's vulnerability paired with her fierce determination recalls the transformation we saw in *Piku*, but here it's married to genuine physical and emotional peril. Neil Bhoopalam serves as an effective counterpoint, though the script occasionally shortchanges his character's arc in favor of focusing on Meera's empowerment.
What truly distinguishes *NH10* is Singh's unflinching direction—the filmmaker refuses to romanticize his couple's ordeal or deliver convenient plot resolutions. The violence here carries consequence and weight, reminiscent of Anurag Kashyap's unflinching brutality in *Gangs of Wasseypur* but applied to a more intimate, domestic terror. The National Highway setting becomes a character itself, a liminal space where societal rules dissolve and survival trumps civility. Storyline
So basically, Meera and Arjun are this couple living it up in Gurugram working corporate jobs, right? One night things go sideways when Meera gets attacked by some goons near her office, which freaks her out big time. Arjun decides to get her a gun for protection and then suggests they take a road trip to celebrate her birthday—seems like a nice way to get her mind off things, you know?
But then during their trip, they stop at this roadside restaurant and run into this girl named Pinky who's desperately asking them for help because she's in serious danger. Before they can do much, they witness this absolutely horrifying scene where a gang shows up and starts brutally attacking Pinky and a young guy with her. It turns out the gang leader, this guy Satbir, claims it's his sister and he's doing some kind of honor killing thing. When Arjun tries to help, things escalate super quickly and the situation becomes genuinely dangerous.
What starts as a birthday getaway turns into a complete nightmare as Meera and Arjun find themselves caught up with this violent gang. They manage to escape at first, but the gang keeps hunting them down, and pretty soon they're fighting for their lives in the dark. The whole thing becomes this intense survival situation where they have to figure out what to do next and how to actually get help, since things are way more complicated than they initially thought.
