Debutant director attempts an ambitious blend of supernatural horror and road-trip thriller with "Mumbai 125 KM," a premise that borrows liberally from the "cursed journey" subgenre while trying to inject distinctly Indian elements. The film's central conceit—a nightmarish loop where the destination becomes unreachable and friends fall one by one—has genuine potential, but the execution falters significantly. Performances feel theatrical rather than grounded; the ensemble cast struggles to convey authentic terror, making the escalating body count feel mechanical rather than emotionally resonant. Technically, the cinematography does capture some eerie moments on isolated highways, yet the direction lacks the atmospheric control needed to sustain dread across two hours. The screenplay's twists arrive with predictability, and the ambiguous ending—questioning what's "real"—feels like a cop-out rather than a deliberate thematic choice.

What undermines the film most acutely is pacing and coherence. The horror setpieces lack originality; watching friends dispatched in "brutal ways" registers as rote rather than impactful, suggesting the director studied genre conventions without understanding how to subvert them. Storyline

So basically, this movie starts with Aashika waking up in a hospital all terrified, and then we flash back to see what actually happened. She and her four friends decided to take a road trip to Mumbai to ring in the New Year together. Things seem fun at first, but pretty quickly they run into trouble – they get stopped by a cop for drunk driving, manage to bribe their way out, and then things get really weird from there.

As they're driving, they start experiencing increasingly creepy stuff on the road. They hit another car, discover a dead cop they'd bribed earlier, pick up a mysterious girl who seems off, and basically realize they're in serious danger. The road keeps going and going like it never ends, which is super unsettling. One by one, their friends start getting killed in brutal ways, and the mysterious girl seems to be at the center of all the horror.

By the time we get to the end, almost all of them have been killed off, leaving just a couple survivors desperately trying to escape. The movie really leans into this supernatural, nightmarish vibe where reality feels twisted and nothing makes sense. It's basically a horror road trip that goes horribly wrong, and you're left wondering what's actually real and what isn't.
