5.8/10Critic Score

Mere Brother Ki Dulhan succeeds primarily as a commercial entertainer that understands its demographic and delivers what they're seeking—a light-hearted romantic comedy wrapped in family values. Cecilia Immanuel (as Dimple) brings genuine charm and spirited energy to a character that could've been one-dimensional, while Imran Khan and Ali Zafar navigate the brother dynamic with reasonable chemistry. Director Ali Abbas Tyrewala demonstrates a keen eye for Mumbai's texture and manages to balance the matrimonial setup's inherent melodrama with moments of authentic humor. The problem, however, lies in the screenplay's predictability and the reliance on convenient plotting—the love triangle resolves itself far too easily for a film that builds 90 minutes of tension around it. The parents' subplot, while culturally resonant, feels underexplored and occasionally hammy, and several comedic sequences overstay their welcome.

What's most striking is how the film functions as a case study in commercial filmmaking: it grossed ₹85.6 crores with a 289% ROI, outperforming the director's average output considerably. Yet financial success here doesn't translate to artistic merit. The narrative borrows liberally from the buddy-comedy-romance template without adding significant originality—this is competent middlebrow cinema that knows exactly which emotional buttons to press. The wedding-in-Agra finale, while visually pleasant, feels obligatory rather than earned. Performances carry the film p

Storyline

So this guy named Luv breaks up with his girlfriend in London and basically tells his younger brother Kush to help him find a wife. Kush is this creative type living in Mumbai doing film work, and he agrees to help search for the perfect match. They try everything—getting help from their parents back in Dehradun, traveling all over India, even putting up a matrimonial ad—but nothing seems to work out.

Then they finally get a response from a family looking for a groom for their daughter, and it turns out to be someone Kush had actually met years ago during college. Her name is Dimple, and she's this bold, independent woman who's pretty much the complete opposite of what you'd expect from a traditional bride. The families start arranging things, and Dimple even agrees to marry Luv after meeting him online, with the wedding planned to happen in Agra with the Taj Mahal as a backdrop.

But here's where things get interesting—as all the wedding prep is happening, Kush starts realizing he's caught feelings for Dimple. After his friend encourages him to just go for it, he tells her how he feels. It seems like she's been trying to hint at her own feelings too, and eventually they both admit there's something real between them. Now they've got to figure out what to do about this whole situation.
