This period melodrama attempts to juggle competing emotional registers—romantic comedy, family drama, and moral redemption—with mixed results. Director's handling of the college romance between Chandu and Geeta feels lightweight and derivative, relying on familiar tropes rather than genuine character development. However, the film finds its footing once it pivots to Ram's backstory, where the narrative explores richer thematic territory around class, morality, and social stigma. The performances in these later sequences carry weight—particularly in scenes where Sita confronts her husband's infidelity and chooses compassion over revenge. That choice feels earned rather than manipulative, which is no small feat for a film operating within such melodramatic terrain. The direction occasionally overreaches with heavy-handed symbolism (the river as destiny, the railway station reunion), yet these moments don't entirely derail the emotional authenticity of the family's ultimate reconciliation.

What ultimately hampers the film is its structural imbalance. Too much screen time is devoted to the lightweight first act, leaving the genuinely compelling material—the moral complexity of Ram's divided loyalties and Sita's transformation—feeling rushed and compressed. The supporting performances are serviceable but rarely transcend their archetypal roles. Where the film succeeds is in its final thesis: that forgiveness and social responsibility can coexist, that a "bastard" becomes legitima

Storyline

Chandu's a lovesick college guy whose parents are totally rooting for him to win over his girlfriend Geeta—but her snobbish dad Dr. Sinha has other ideas and absolutely forbids it! When Chandu's bold enough to elope with Geeta to his home, the furious doctor shows up at the wedding and hurls insults, calling Chandu a bastard and worse. That's when Chandu's father Ram drops a bomb that changes everything—he confesses to a secret past that'll make your jaw hit the floor!

Years ago, Ram met and fell madly in love with Radha, a prostitute he rescued, but a river flood tore them apart and he thought she was dead! When Radha miraculously reappears at a railway station, Ram can't resist rekindling their affair behind his wife Sita's back—and things get messy when Radha gets pregnant! Meanwhile, Sita and Radha actually become genuine friends without knowing the connection, and Sita even names Radha's baby boy Chander Kumar (that's our Chandu!) in a moment of beautiful, tragic irony.

The truth finally crashes down when Sita discovers Ram's betrayal and his relationship with Radha, but here's where it gets beautiful—instead of destroying everything, Sita's compassion wins out and she demands Ram do right by Radha and their son! Ram steps up, acknowledges Chandu as his legitimate son, and suddenly Chandu isn't a bastard anymore—he's the bridge between two families built on love, sacrifice, and forgiveness that actually sticks!
