Sridevi's return vehicle arrives with considerable commercial momentum—₹42.67 crore domestic gross represents solid performance for a female-led thriller—yet the film itself struggles to justify the goodwill. Director Vishal Pandya constructs a legal thriller that relies heavily on maternal stakes and courtroom dramatics, but the screenplay collapses under its own contrivances. The premise of a defense lawyer coerced into defending an accused criminal while her daughter hangs in the balance has inherent tension, but the execution deflates it through predictable twists and undercooked character motivation. Sridevi delivers a committed performance that carries genuine desperation, particularly in intimate moments, but even her considerable screen presence cannot salvage the mechanical plotting. The four-day trial structure feels rushed rather than tense, and the political conspiracy subplot emerges so late and underdeveloped that it reads as narrative padding rather than thematic complexity.

What ultimately undermines *Jazbaa* is its refusal to engage meaningfully with its own moral ambiguity. Storyline

So this movie is about this super successful criminal lawyer named Anuradha who basically never loses a case. One day at her daughter's school event, the unthinkable happens—her kid gets kidnapped! The kidnapper gives her an impossible choice: she has to defend some guy who's accused of a terrible crime, or she'll never see her daughter again. She can't tell anyone what's happening because the kidnapper's watching her every move, so she just pretends everything's fine while secretly freaking out.

The guy she's forced to defend is this dude named Niyaaz who's charged with some really serious crimes, and she has to get him acquitted in just four days. The problem is that all the evidence points directly to him, making her job incredibly tough. She reaches out to an old cop friend who's been kicked off the force for bending the rules, hoping he can help her dig up something that might save her daughter's life.

Meanwhile, this powerful politician named Mahesh is pushing for a guilty verdict because he cares about his public image on crime issues. He brings in this hotshot prosecutor who's actually beaten Anuradha in court before, making things way more complicated. As Anuradha digs deeper into the case, she starts uncovering secrets about who the real players are in this whole mess, and nothing seems as straightforward as it first appeared.
