Ramesh Sippy's "Gentleman" operates within the familiar framework of the separated-twins narrative, a Bollywood staple that hinges entirely on execution rather than originality. The film's central premise—two identical brothers unknowingly colliding across vastly different worlds—possesses genuine dramatic potential, yet the execution feels stretched thin across its runtime. Shahid Kapoor delivers a competent dual performance, managing to differentiate Hari's prison-hardened intensity from Om's domesticated vulnerability through physicality and tone, though the script rarely gives him moments that demand genuine acting range. Director Lokesh Kanagaraj attempts to inject stylistic flair into what could have been a stale melodrama, and there are sequences—particularly in the criminal underworld sequences—where the tension crackles. However, the film's pacing betrays it; the middle act meanders, indulging in repetitive comedic bits that undermine the moral stakes established in the opening act.

The plot's reliance on convenient coincidences and contrived reveals weakens what could have been a taut thriller. Storyline

Two identical twins get ripped apart at birth in this absolute roller coaster, and decades later they stumble into each other as grown men—except neither knows they're brothers! Hari's been rotting in jail because of some criminal kingpin named Shakti, while Om's been living his life as a family man, completely clueless that his doppelgänger exists. The setup is wild: two lives, one face, infinite chaos waiting to explode.

Then everything goes haywire when Om realizes his newfound twin is locked up for crimes he didn't commit—Shakti framed him! Om's got to navigate this insane criminal underworld where a dangerous thug is calling the shots, all while trying to keep his own family safe and figure out how to actually free his brother. The tension ratchets up because Om has to go toe-to-toe with Shakti without getting killed or losing everything he's built.

Om pulls off the impossible—he outsmarts Shakti, exposes the truth, and gets Hari released from prison! The brothers finally get their moment, their lives get untangled from years of separation and lies, and they actually get to be a family again. It's the kind of cathartic payoff that makes you believe in second chances and the power of brotherly love!
