5.7/10Critic Score

Rohit Gupte's "Force" attempts to balance a romantic subplot with a revenge thriller, but the execution reveals a filmmaker struggling to master tonal consistency. John Abraham brings his characteristic physicality to Yash, a narcotics cop whose emotional unavailability forms the crux of the narrative, yet the romantic arc between him and Maya (Genelia D'Souza) feels mechanically inserted rather than organically developed. The chemistry between leads is serviceable at best, and the film wastes considerable runtime on relationship beats that distract from what could have been a tighter action narrative. Where the film finds its footing is in the second half's revenge trajectory—Vishnu's organized brutality provides genuine stakes, and the operational sequences demonstrate competent action choreography. However, the transition between genres is jarring; the tender moments in the first half clash awkwardly with the visceral violence that follows, suggesting Gupte hasn't fully synthesized his ambitions.

The film's commercial performance (₹40Cr with 43% ROI) indicates it found its audience despite critical reservations, yet the numbers mask fundamental narrative weaknesses. The suspension sequence that triggers the main plot feels rushed and undercooked—the moral ambiguity of the officers' actions deserves deeper exploration rather than quick justification. Abraham's screen presence partially compensates for thin characterization, and the supporting cast provides adequate support

Storyline

So there's this tough cop named Yash who works in the narcotics unit and basically has zero personal life. He's all about his job and doesn't let anyone get close to him. Then he meets this spirited woman named Maya, and even though they don't hit it off right away, something clicks between them. When Maya gets hurt in an accident, Yash is right there for her, and they start spending time together. Maya eventually tells him she has feelings for him, but Yash pushes her away because he thinks having someone he cares about will mess with his work performance.

Yash's colleagues and their families start noticing what's really obvious to everyone—that he's totally into Maya too. After some friendly persuasion, he finally admits his feelings and decides to give their relationship a real shot. Around the same time, Yash and his team take down a major drug dealer named Vijay Reddy in an undercover operation, but things don't go exactly by the book. The four officers involved end up getting suspended because they killed the guy instead of arresting him, which sets off a chain of really dark events.

The dead drug dealer's brother, Vishnu, is absolutely ruthless and decides he's going to make the officers pay with their lives. He's willing to do whatever it takes to get revenge, and he specifically targets the people closest to them. The officers try to prepare for what's coming, but Vishnu and his crew are dangerous and organized. Despite all the chaos and danger surrounding them, Yash and Maya actually tie the knot, which sets the stage for everything that follows.
