6/10Critic Score

Fida attempts an ambitious tonal blend—romantic drama meets crime thriller—but the execution wavers between genuine moments of tenderness and narrative contrivances that strain credibility. Shahid Kapoor brings earnestness to Jai, particularly in scenes where his character grapples with the moral descent from lovesick boy to reluctant criminal, and there's a vulnerability here that elevates what could have been a one-dimensional protagonist. Kareena Kapoor has less to work with in Neha, reduced often to a damsel-in-distress archetype, though she carries her scenes with composure. Where director Anees Bazmee shows promise is in the quieter character moments—the unspoken chemistry between the leads, the poignancy of Sonia's unrequited love—yet these are undermined by a script that relies too heavily on convenience and coincidence to propel its plot forward.

The film's central conflict, while conceptually sound, buckles under lazy storytelling. The leap from desperate love to armed robbery feels rushed, and the mechanics of the heist itself lack the ingenuity or tension such sequences demand. Bazmee seems more comfortable with romantic beats than crime narrative, and his direction reflects this inconsistency—some scenes linger beautifully while others feel hurried past their emotional potential. Still, the film doesn't embarrass itself; it's competent enough in its craft, and the interval twist provides genuine surprise value. What ultimately works against Fida is ambition with

Storyline

So basically, this guy named Jai spots this gorgeous woman Neha and falls head over heels for her right away. She's not interested at first, which honestly leads to some pretty dramatic moments, but eventually she comes around and they start falling for each other. Meanwhile, Jai's best friend Sonia, who's secretly had feelings for him forever, decides to bounce and head to London when she realizes Jai's caught up with Neha.

Here's where things get complicated – Neha's got some serious baggage. Her dad used to work with some hackers and owed a ton of money to this dangerous crime boss named Babu Anna. Now that her father's gone, the underworld guys are coming after her to collect the debt, and she's pretty desperate about the whole situation. Jai wants to help her out of this mess and they try selling their apartments, but that doesn't work out.

So Jai starts thinking about more risky ways to get the money they need. He spots this loaded guy named Vikram Singh at a bank withdrawing a huge amount of cash, and that's when Jai gets the idea to rob him instead. But things don't go according to plan when Vikram catches him in the act, and that's when everything really spirals into chaos.
