Sneha Kapoor's Review:
Ram Madhvani's "State of Siege: Temple Attack" slots itself squarely within the tactical thriller mold that has gained considerable traction in Hindi cinema, yet struggles to distinguish itself from its more polished predecessors in the genre. The film's central premise—a battle-hardened military officer grappling with both an external terrorist threat and internal departmental resistance—presents compelling thematic territory, reminiscent of the moral complexity found in superior action dramas. However, the execution falters where it matters most: the screenplay oscillates between heavy-handed character motivation and surface-level conflict resolution, treating the protagonist's psychological wounds as a plot device rather than a genuine exploration of trauma and redemption.
What the film does manage effectively is its commitment to depicting the claustrophobic tension of a hostage crisis, particularly in the second act where negotiations become a battle of wills between ideologically opposed forces. The commando sequences possess a certain visceral energy, and the supporting cast members portraying the military hierarchy bring credible tension to their scenes. Yet these sporadic moments of craft cannot compensate for the pedestrian dialogue and predictable character arcs that undermine genuine emotional investment. The film's treatment of the temple setting, while thematically resonant for its target audience, feels more concerned with surface symbo
Storyline
A decorated military officer carrying the weight of past trauma finds himself facing a fresh crisis when terrorists storm a temple in Gujarat with a deadly agenda. The attackers, operating under the command of a radical leader, take civilians hostage and issue an ultimatum to the government: release their imprisoned commander or face systematic executions. The standoff transforms into a high-stakes negotiation between religious extremists and state authorities.
The officer assembles his elite commando unit to neutralize the threat, but friction emerges within the chain of command when he refuses to play it safe. His unconventional approach and history of aggressive tactics put him at odds with his superiors, who worry his judgment may be compromised by personal demons. The tension between following protocol and taking decisive action becomes central to the unfolding crisis.
As the operation intensifies, the temple becomes a battleground between the commandos and the heavily armed insurgents entrenched inside. The civilians remain trapped in the crossfire as each side escalates its tactics, testing the mettle of both the soldiers and their commander. The stakes climb higher with each passing hour as the deadline approaches and the situation spirals toward its climax.
