Vijay Raj's "Entertainment" arrives as a peculiar amalgamation of romantic comedy and melodrama that never quite finds its footing, despite turning a respectable ₹115.93 crore at the box office. The film's premise—a struggling performer fighting for financial respectability to win his love's hand—is familiar Bollywood territory, but the execution falters under the weight of increasingly absurd plot revelations. The mysterious phone calls that conveniently extract Akhil from confrontations feel like narrative crutches rather than clever storytelling devices, and the tonal whiplash between lighthearted romance and the devastating adopted-child revelation exposes sloppy screenplay work. The performances are competent enough to carry the entertainment value for the family audience the film targets, yet they're never given material substantial enough to transcend the formulaic structure. Raj's direction here shows marginal improvement over his previous work, but remains largely pedestrian in its visual language and pacing.

What truly derails "Entertainment" is its second-half pivot into family drama that contradicts everything established in the first act. The revelation about Akhil's adoption and his subsequent beating of his father creates a jarring tonal rupture that the film never recovers from—it's a melodramatic gut-punch delivered without earned emotional stakes or proper character development. Storyline

So basically this guy Akhil keeps getting into these crazy fights over money whenever he's not paid properly for gigs he does. But here's the weird part—every single time a fight breaks out, he gets a mysterious phone call and just dips out of there. Anyway, he eventually crosses paths with this actress named Saakshi who's working on a TV show, and after spending some time together, he decides to propose to her right there in the park. Pretty romantic, honestly!

Saakshi's dad is not about it though. He tells Akhil that he needs to become seriously wealthy—we're talking crorepati rich—before he can even think about marrying his daughter. So Akhil's now on this mission to make it big, and he decides to visit his buddy Jugnu at his shop, planning to head to the hospital because his dad's supposedly having heart problems. But plot twist—when he gets there, his dad is literally living his best life in the hospital, totally faking the whole thing!

Things get super intense when Akhil confronts his father about the whole scam. That's when Mr. Lokhande drops the biggest bomb—Akhil's actually adopted! His real mom died in a train accident, and the adoption was basically done to score some compensation money from the railway company. Akhil completely loses it and beats up his dad over this betrayal. Later, when he's alone at home, he finds some love letters and a locket in a chest that belonged to his real parents, and through these, he realizes his biological father is actually this crazy wealthy guy named Pannalal Johri!
