Ek Nai Paheli

Rajesh Khanna's *Ek Nai Paheli* is an ambitious melodrama that swings between genuine emotional depth and overwrought theatricality, ultimately landing somewhere in the middle ground. The film's central premise—a love triangle complicated by hidden paternity and generational conflict—has the bones of compelling drama, and there are moments where the script mines real pathos from its characters' moral dilemmas. Sandeep's rebellion against his father carries authentic weight, and the revelation about Kajri's true parentage does manage to upend the narrative in ways that feel earned rather than contrived. However, the execution often tips into excess; scenes that should whisper instead shout, and the climactic resolutions feel rushed, as though the director suddenly remembered he needed to tie things up.

The performances carry much of the film's weight. Sandeep brings a youthful vulnerability to his role that makes his initial arrogance sympathetic, while the actor playing Bhairavi strikes a fine balance between mystery and magnetism.
