K. Balachander was a titan of Indian cinema who spent five decades pushing boundaries and challenging conventions. Starting as a screenwriter in 1964 before making his directorial debut with Neerkumizhi, Balachander went on to write or direct over 100 films, cementing his status as one of the most prolific filmmakers in Indian cinema.
