5/10Critic Score

Rohit Gupte's "Chase" attempts to weave a politically charged thriller around a wrongly accused BSF commando, but the execution remains frustratingly uneven. The premise—a murder conspiracy involving government ministers and corporate interests—has genuine potential, yet the narrative sprawls across too many tangential characters without developing any with sufficient depth. Sohail's characterization oscillates between victim and action hero without internal consistency, while the romance between him and nurse Nupur feels rushed and emotionally unearned, existing primarily to justify the escape sequence rather than create genuine stakes. Gupte's direction lacks the tautness essential for a thriller; scenes meander when they should snap, and the supposedly intricate web of corruption, media manipulation, and bureaucratic complicity becomes muddled under the weight of underdeveloped subplots involving the TV reporter ex and businessman antagonist.

What works sporadically is the film's willingness to critique institutional rot—the casual corruption of police machinery and corporate-political nexus has teeth—but these thematic elements drown in melodrama and convenience plotting. The Panchgani hospital sequence briefly generates tension through psychological cat-and-mouse dynamics, yet even this evaporates once the narrative pivots to a conventional on-the-run structure. Performance-wise, there's competence but no magnetism; the leads lack the charisma or nuance to elevate mater

Storyline

So there's this guy named Sohail who used to work as a commando for the BSF, but now he's on the lam because he's somehow connected to the murder of a really important government minister. A senior police officer called DIG Ranveer Tyagi wants to catch him because Sohail knows stuff about what actually happened. The cops keep chasing him through the city, and eventually they catch him, but here's the thing—he ends up in a hospital where he's supposed to be getting treatment and observation.

While Sohail's stuck at this neurological institute in Panchgani, a nurse named Nupur gets assigned to watch over him. She figures out pretty quickly that he's faking his condition to hide from the police, and as she spends time with him, she starts to believe in his innocence. When she learns what he's really trying to do, she decides to help him escape and they go on the run together.

The story gets messier with all these other people involved—there's a TV reporter who was Sohail's ex, a big businessman trying to get approval for some massive power plant project, and another guy named Anthony who's also trying to uncover the truth about the murder. The whole thing becomes this crazy cat-and-mouse game through Mumbai where nobody's really sure who to trust, and you've got politicians, cops, and businesspeople all tangled up in this web of secrets and lies.
