5/10Critic Score

"Chaar Maharathi" attempts to straddle the line between a heist-adventure romp and an emotional family drama, but unfortunately stumbles in execution. The premise—four friends hunting treasure while evading a dacoit—recalls the more sprightly energy of films like "Dhoom" or "Go Goa Gone," yet director Rohit Shetty's usual kinetic vigor seems absent here. The first half drags considerably, bogged down by expository dialogue and underdeveloped character dynamics that fail to establish why we should care about these four's camaraderie. The performances are serviceable but unmemorable; the ensemble cast lacks the chemistry that makes buddy narratives sing. Akshay Kumar (as Suleman, presumably) delivers his standard action-hero beats without much nuance, while the supporting players blend into the background noise.

Where the film truly derails is in its central twist—the revelation that Raju is Mr. Raina's son—which arrives too late and feels grafted on rather than organically woven into the narrative fabric. This should function as the emotional spine, but instead it registers as a contrived plot device designed to inject sentiment into what was otherwise a forgettable treasure hunt. The third act overcompensates with heavy-handed messaging about family and loyalty, undermining the genuine stakes established by Devi Singh's threat. The antagonist himself is criminally underwritten; we've seen far more textured dacoit villains in recent Hindi cinema.

Storyline

Four friends—Suleman, Raju, John, and Shakti—embark on an exhilarating quest to uncover the hidden treasure left behind by the mysterious Mr. Raina. They're chasing adventure, wealth, and the thrill of discovery as they navigate through clues and obstacles. But their journey takes a thrilling turn when they cross paths with the ruthless dacoit Devi Singh, a formidable antagonist who wants the treasure for himself.

The stakes explode as Devi Singh hunts them down relentlessly, forcing our heroes into intense confrontations and dangerous chases. The battle for the treasure becomes increasingly personal and brutal, with Devi Singh proving to be a worthy—and terrifying—opponent. Just when everything seems darkest, a shocking revelation turns their entire world upside down.

The twist hits hard: Raju is actually Mr. Raina's lost son, making him the rightful heir to everything they've been searching for! This bombshell completely reframes their adventure from a treasure hunt into a deeply emotional journey of family, identity, and redemption. The friends rally together to protect Raju from Devi Singh's clutches, and what unfolds is an absolutely gripping climax that blends action, sentiment, and genuine heart.
