5/10Critic Score

Rajpal Yadav's second innings as Bhoothnath sees him swinging wildly between crowd-pleasing family entertainment and heavy-handed political commentary, and frankly, the tonal whiplash is exhausting. The premise of a bumbling ghost finding redemption through civic duty has potential, but the execution is sloppy—the film treats children's logic with condescension while simultaneously expecting us to buy a supernatural being's sudden passion for anti-corruption crusades. Yadav himself remains earnest and likable in the role, salvaging scenes that would otherwise collapse under their own earnestness, but even his considerable charm can't mask the watered-down narrative that abandons character development the moment it pivots to political thriller territory.

The real problem is that director Nitesh Tiwari wants to serve three different films here: a children's adventure, a social commentary, and a political drama. None of them gets the attention they deserve. The corruption subplot feels grafted on, the kid-ghost chemistry that should anchor everything gets sidelined, and the climactic political battle is neither thrilling nor particularly clever—it's just loud and insistent. What could have been a sharp satire becomes a preachy trudge, and what could have been heartfelt becomes saccharine. Yes, the film made money and audiences showed up, but commercial success doesn't excuse lazy storytelling or the sense that Tiwari is more interested in lecturing than entertaining.

Storyline

So basically, this ghost named Bhoothnath is going through kind of an identity crisis. He's getting roasted by the other ghosts back in the spirit world for being totally useless at his job—he can't even scare kids anymore! So he decides to come back to Earth to prove himself, but here's the thing: modern kids are way too tough and confident to be frightened by some old-school spook. That's when he meets this clever kid named Akhrot who can actually see him, and instead of running away screaming, Akhrot's like "Hey, let's make a deal!"

The two of them end up becoming this unlikely buddy duo where they help wandering spirits find peace by solving their unfinished business. While doing this good deed stuff, they stumble onto some pretty shady corruption involving insurance companies and a sketchy politician named Bhau. Bhoothnath gets inspired by Akhrot's drive to make things better and decides he's going to jump into politics himself to fight against all this corruption he's discovered.

What makes the story really interesting is watching this former ghost-turned-politician go head-to-head with Bhau in what becomes an intense political battle. The stakes keep getting higher and higher as the election day approaches, and you've got to see how far Bhoothnath is willing to push himself to try and win. There's definitely some action and tension building up as we get closer to the finale!
