Barkhaa arrives as a well-intentioned melodrama that fumbles its own emotional weight under the burden of lazy storytelling and performative sympathy. Director Anurag Kashyap attempts to tackle the exploitation of vulnerable women—genuinely worthy territory—but the film reduces Barkhaa's trauma to a backdrop for Jatin's redemption arc, making his obsession feel uncomfortably like the very predatory behavior the narrative claims to critique.
