Abhishek Dudhaiya's *Bangistan* attempts something genuinely ambitious—a satirical dark comedy about radicalization and religious extremism that doesn't shy away from its provocative premise. The film's central conceit, wherein two unwitting terrorists from opposing ideologies become friends without knowing each other's true purpose, carries genuine comedic potential and offers space for meaningful social commentary. Rajkummar Rao and Riteish Deshmukh share a natural chemistry that occasionally lifts the material, and there are moments where the film's absurdist humor lands with real bite, particularly when skewering the banality of radicalization and how ordinary young men can be manipulated by zealots.

However, the execution falters significantly. The tone is uneven—the film oscillates between slapstick comedy and serious commentary without finding a coherent balance, leaving audiences uncertain whether to laugh or reflect. The satirical edge, which could have been incisive, becomes muddled by predictable Bollywood tropes and a romance subplot that dilutes rather than strengthens the narrative. Deshmukh's performance, while earnest, sometimes veers toward caricature, and the supporting cast feels underutilized. Most critically, the script's ability to unpack the psychological roots of extremism is undermined by its reliance on convenient plot devices and a climax that opts for spectacle over substance.

Storyline

So there's this fictional country called Bangistan that's basically torn apart by constant fighting between different religious groups. Two guys end up getting caught in this mess—one's a former call center employee who got radicalized into planning something terrible, and the other's a hardcore activist with his own sinister agenda. They're both trying to pull off attacks at this big international religious conference, but they're keeping their true identities completely secret from each other.

Things get pretty wild when these two dudes actually meet and become friends without realizing they're on the same twisted mission. They're both falling for the same girl, sharing a hotel room, and secretly building bombs in their separate spaces. Eventually they figure out what the other person is really up to, and instead of being enemies, they start actually working together while coming to terms with how badly they've been manipulated by their respective leaders.

But their plan goes completely sideways when they accidentally trigger one of their explosives during a confrontation and end up getting arrested. Meanwhile, the people who brainwashed them back home aren't about to give up on their plans, so they start taking matters into their own hands to try and cause chaos anyway.
