7/10Critic Score

Salman Khan's "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" operates as Kabir Khan's most emotionally restrained work, a significant tonal departure from his signature bombast, yet paradoxically his most commercially validated—₹918 crore on a modest budget reflects audience hunger for cross-border humanitarianism dressed in masala sensibilities. The film's central conceit, a mute Pakistani girl and an Indian Muslim man navigating geopolitical borders through faith and compassion, could have collapsed into saccharine territory, but Khan's measured direction and Salman's surprisingly subdued performance anchor the sentimentality in genuine pathos. Anushka Sharma is criminally underutilized after the midpoint separation, while Nawazuddin Siddiqui steals sequences with razor-sharp comic timing that prevents the narrative from drowning in its own earnestness. The screenplay's strongest asset is its refusal to weaponize nationalism—the child transcends borders, not through government intervention, but through individual human decency.

Where the film falters is in its tonal inconsistency and narrative bloat. The first act oscillates between heavy-handed comedy and melodrama without achieving equilibrium; several subplots feel obligatory rather than organic, particularly the romance between Salman and Anushka, which derails the film's thematic momentum. Storyline

So there's this little girl named Shahida living in the mountains of Pakistan who can't speak. One day she has a terrible accident falling off a hillside, and while the villagers manage to rescue her, everyone realizes she needs help. Her family decides the best thing to do is take her to a famous holy shrine in India that they believe has healing powers, hoping it might help her find her voice again.

Shahida's mom decides to make the journey since her dad won't be able to get permission to travel across the border. They manage to reach the shrine in Delhi, pray there, and head back home. But during the train ride back to Pakistan, something unexpected happens that changes everything for this little girl, and she ends up separated from her mother in a heartbreaking moment.

From that point on, the story becomes about finding her way back home and the people she meets along the journey. It's really a touching tale about how a helpless child navigates a world that seems impossible to cross, with some unexpected friendships and kindness along the way. The whole thing is pretty emotional and shows how love and determination can overcome even the biggest obstacles between countries and cultures.
