5/10Critic Score

Sachin Pathak's *Amavas* attempts to blend supernatural horror with revenge thriller mechanics, but stumbles significantly in execution despite a genuinely intriguing possession-based premise. The film's central conceit—a vengeful spirit using the protagonist's body as a weapon against his social circle—had potential for genuine psychological terror, yet the narrative collapses under inconsistent pacing and tonal whiplash. The performances feel trapped between melodrama and horror, with neither Sachiin Joshi nor the supporting cast managing to anchor the increasingly convoluted plot. While the body-count escalation provides surface-level thrills, the lack of character development makes each murder feel repetitive rather than impactful, and the logic governing the possession itself remains frustratingly undefined throughout.

Where *Amavas* truly falters is in the final stretch, where desperation masquerades as cleverness. The climactic self-sacrifice moment—Karan walking into the burning grave—tries to manufacture emotional weight through sacrifice, but the setup lacks the narrative groundwork necessary for genuine catharsis. Then comes the twist ending: Ahana's marked hand suggesting the spirit's transference. Rather than functioning as earned supernatural payoff, it reads as cynical franchise-baiting, appended without sufficient foreshadowing or thematic purpose. The box office performance (₹3.6 Cr with marginal ROI) reflects audience indifference, not box office undervalua
