"Zameen" arrives as a loud, jingoistic action thriller that mistakes decibel levels for dramatic tension. The premise—a hijacked plane, a redemption arc, geopolitical stakes—has potential, but director Kunal Kohli squanders it with ham-fisted direction and a script that treats its audience like they've never seen a thriller before. Ajay Devgn plays Colonel Ranvir with his usual stone-faced intensity, which works in isolated moments, but the character's arc feels obligatory rather than earned. Abhishek Bachchan, burdened with the underdog role of Jaideep, tries to inject some vulnerability but gets buried under explosions and poorly written reconciliation scenes. The supporting cast—particularly Priyanka Chopra as the fiancée and Boman Irani as the subordinate—exists merely as plot devices rather than fully realized characters. What grinds the film down most is its reliance on patriotic chest-thumping in place of actual character development; every emotional beat is underlined in red, every revelation telegraphed minutes in advance.

The action sequences, particularly the climactic airborne gunfight over Kashmir, have a certain kinetic energy that briefly elevates the film above complete mediocrity. There's spectacle here, money on screen, and some competent stunt work. But spectacle alone doesn't excuse lazy storytelling. The film's internal logic collapses under scrutiny—the conspiracy feels poorly constructed, the insider moles are introduced and forgotten, and the Pakistan

Storyline

When Pakistani-backed terrorists attack Parliament, Colonel Ranvir Singh Ranawat leads the charge to capture their ringleader, Baba Zaheer Khan. But Ranvir's quick judgment costs nine soldiers their lives, and he demands his negligent subordinate Jaideep Rai resign in disgrace. Years later, Jaideep resurfaces as an ACP in Mumbai's Anti-Terrorist Squad, determined to prove himself—only to discover that Al-Tahir terrorists are plotting Baba Zaheer's prison escape, and they're willing to hijack a plane full of 107 innocent people to make it happen.

The nightmare unfolds when the terrorists seize an Indian Airlines flight bound for Kathmandu, and Jaideep's fiancée Nandini and his foster father Captain Basheer Ali are trapped on board. The hijackers demand Baba Zaheer's release in exchange for the passengers' lives, and they've got Pakistani Army backup waiting in Kashmir—making it a full-blown international crisis. Jaideep races to expose airport corruption and uncover the gun-smuggling operation, while the government struggles to negotiate with Pakistan, forcing the one man who distrusts him most—Colonel Ranvir—back into action alongside Jaideep.

Ranvir and Jaideep put aside their bitter history and hatch a rescue plan, though neither knows their strategy's already been compromised by insider moles. What follows is an explosive gunfight over the skies of Kashmir where these two finally work as one unit, recapturing Baba Zaheer and saving the hostages. In a stunning finale, they throw their nemesis out of a moving military helicopter—a perfect full-circle moment that proves Jaideep's redemption and seals the victory that started years ago.
