"Yeh Faasley" grapples with a genuinely intriguing premise—the unraveling of family mythology through a daughter's eyes—but stumbles considerably in its execution. The core conflict between filial devotion and the hunger for truth holds real dramatic potential, yet director Sooni Taraporevala's handling feels uneven, oscillating between contemplative introspection and melodramatic exposition. The writing, while addressing substantive themes about parental relationships and self-discovery, occasionally resorts to convenient plot devices and heavy-handed revelations that undercut the film's more nuanced moments. What works best are the quieter scenes of Arunima's internal turbulence; what falters is the pacing, which struggles to maintain momentum across the investigative arc.

The performances, particularly from the lead, carry sincerity even when the material doesn't fully support them. There's a genuine attempt here to explore the messy territory between love and doubt, between accepting inherited narratives and forging one's own truth. However, the supporting cast—including the pivotal character of Diggy—sometimes feels underutilized, and their backstory revelations arrive with less impact than intended. Storyline

So there's this girl named Arunima whose dad is basically this huge real estate mogul in the city. She's just finished school and moves back home permanently, which should be awesome since her dad absolutely adores her. The thing is, she lost her mom when she was just a tiny kid in a car accident, so it's been the two of them for ages. Her dad's always been super chill and wants her to enjoy life to the fullest, which sounds great in theory.

But then Arunima starts discovering some old stuff lying around that makes her wonder if everything her dad told her about her mom was actually true. She reconnects with an old friend of her mother's named Diggy and meets other people from back in the day who start sharing stories that paint a completely different picture of who her mom really was. Apparently her mom wasn't exactly living her best life, which is nothing like the version her father's been telling her all these years.

The more Arunima digs into these mysteries, the more conflicted she becomes because all these questions are making her suspicious of her own father. She's caught between her love for him and this growing need to figure out what actually happened between her parents. The doubt is eating away at her, so she decides to go on this quest to uncover the real story behind her parents' past and find out what's actually true.
