Ashutosh Gowariker's *What's Your Raashee?* arrives as an ambitious romantic comedy that bites off more than it can chew, collapsing under the weight of its own gimmicky premise. The film's central conceit—a man dating twelve women representing the zodiac signs—feels like a lazy screenwriter's shortcut rather than a genuine exploration of compatibility or romance. Where films like *Cocktail* used multiple romantic encounters to interrogate urban relationships, this one treats the zodiac hook as mere window dressing. Shahid Kapoor invests considerable charm into Yogesh, and there are moments where his earnest confusion lands genuine laughs, but even his capable performance can't salvage the bloated narrative that keeps introducing new characters when the emotional core remains paper-thin. The supporting cast, particularly Anushka Sharma's Sanjana, hints at the film's better self—a quieter meditation on second chances—but Gowariker keeps pulling away from intimacy toward spectacle.

The film's structural problems become increasingly evident as it progresses; the elaborate misunderstanding involving the detective, Devu, and a phantom affair feels like a plot device from a 1990s farce, utterly disconnected from the romantic stakes supposedly driving the story. Compared to Gowariker's own *Lagaan*, which balanced multiple subplots with narrative purpose, this feels scattered and self-indulgent. The climactic moment where Yogesh "dreams about all the girls" to find true love is nei

Storyline

Yogesh is a successful guy living large in Chicago when his family back in Mumbai throws him a curveball—marry by the 20th of the month and inherit his grandfather's fortune! Sounds great until his brother Jitu reveals he's drowning in gambling debts to both a regular creditor and a terrifying mob boss, and if Yogesh doesn't walk down the aisle by that deadline, Jitu's heading straight to jail. Caught between a rock and a hard place, Yogesh reluctantly agrees to marry, and his uncle Devu posts a matrimonial ad that gets 176 responses—so Yogesh decides to meet one girl from each zodiac sign like he's on some kind of romantic treasure hunt!

Things get messy fast when Yogesh connects with a girl named Sanjana who's dealing with her own relationship drama, and they share a vulnerable moment together that gets totally misread by Devu and a detective who's been hired to spy on Devu for his suspicious wife Kanta. The detective thinks Devu's having an affair with Sanjana, photos get shown around, and suddenly everyone's convinced of this false romance—Yogesh thinks his uncle's betraying him, Devu thinks Yogesh threw him under the bus, and nobody's got a clue what actually happened! Confusion and hurt feelings explode everywhere.

But then Yogesh's mom tells him to follow his heart instead of his head, and after he dreams about all the girls, he knows exactly who he needs to marry—and it's not just about saving Jitu anymore, it's about genuine love! The truth comes out, misunderstandings get cleared up, and Yogesh finds his perfect match while his family gets a second chance at happiness too!
