5.1/10Critic Score

Teree Sang attempts to tackle the thorny intersection of class divide and teenage pregnancy with earnest intentions, yet stumbles in execution where it matters most. The premise—star-crossed lovers from opposing socioeconomic backgrounds—recalls films like *Dil Chahta Hai* or even *Ek Chhotisi Love Story*, but lacks the nuance those films brought to their narratives. What should be a grounded exploration of young love against societal pressure devolves into melodrama; the couple's decision to flee and hide in a cottage feels more like a tired Bollywood trope than a credible response to genuine crisis. The direction relies too heavily on emotional manipulation rather than character development, and while the performances hint at chemistry between the leads, they're let down by a script that oscillates between heavy-handed and superficial.

The film's second act—where Kabir's sacrificial hustle and Maahi's domestic adjustment could have been poignant—instead becomes repetitive and sentimental without earning its tears. For comparison, films dealing with class conflict and unwed parenthood have succeeded when they've shown the grinding reality of circumstances; here, the cottage sequences feel insulated from consequence. The legal battle that climaxes the narrative arrives abruptly, as if the filmmaker suddenly remembered there should be stakes. The supporting cast and family dynamics are undercooked, robbing the finale of the weight it desperately seeks. What begins as a story

Storyline

So basically, this movie follows two teenagers from completely different worlds who fall for each other. Maahi comes from this super wealthy family while Kabir's struggling to make ends meet with his lower-middle-class background. They start as friends but end up getting really close, and their connection keeps deepening over time. It's one of those stories about how opposites attract, you know?

Things take a serious turn when they end up getting intimate one New Year's Eve, and Maahi finds out she's pregnant. Both families absolutely flip out and want her to terminate the pregnancy, but she's determined to keep the baby. Since their parents won't support them, the couple decides to run away together. Some of their friends help them hide out in this secluded cottage while they figure out what to do next.

Meanwhile, their parents team up to track them down because they're freaking out about where their kids disappeared to. While the teenagers are on the run, Kabir busts his tail working different jobs to provide for them, and Maahi takes care of the house and finds ways to earn a little money too. When everyone finally reunites, things get pretty dramatic and there's a whole legal battle that unfolds. It's definitely an emotional rollercoaster that deals with some heavy real-life issues.
