4/10Critic Score

"Showbiz" attempts to dissect the underbelly of the Hindi film industry through Rohan's struggle for musical stardom, but the execution is painfully pedestrian. The film had genuine potential—the premise of exploring fame's corrosive effect on personal life and mental health is timely and relevant. However, the direction lacks any sharp perspective or stylistic conviction. What should have been a biting commentary on media intrusion and industry politics instead devolves into melodramatic posturing and clichéd emotional beats. The performances are adequate but uninspired, and the screenplay meanders without ever committing to a clear point of view. It's the kind of film that mistakes depicting problems for actually examining them.

The biggest sin here is wasted opportunity. For a story about someone drowning in the machinery of showbiz, the film itself feels like it's going through the motions rather than wrestling with its own themes. There's no visual language to complement the narrative, no innovative storytelling device that would distinguish this from a dozen other "dreams-and-darkness" tales. The chemistry between characters feels forced, the dialogue rarely sparkles with authenticity, and most frustratingly, we're never given a reason to deeply invest in Rohan's journey. By the time the third act arrives, you're merely watching the clock rather than watching a character transform.

Storyline

So this film follows this young guy named Rohan who's got big dreams of becoming a successful musician in the Hindi film industry. He's ambitious and eager to make his mark, but like anyone trying to break into showbiz, he faces a whole bunch of challenges along the way.

The story really digs into how crazy the entertainment world can be, especially when you're trying to gain recognition. Rohan has to deal with all the attention that comes with chasing fame, and not all of it is positive. The media is constantly hovering around him, and his private life starts getting tangled up with his professional ambitions.

What makes it interesting is watching how he navigates through all these ups and downs. You see him dealing with the pressure of the industry, the interference from the press, and how it all affects his personal relationships and mental state. It's basically a peek into what it's really like when someone's trying to climb the ladder in such a competitive and demanding field.
