4/10Critic Score

"Sandwich" attempts to mine comedic gold from a premise rooted in classic Hindi cinema's love of marital chaos, yet the execution falters under the weight of its own implausibility. The film's central conceit—a man maintaining two simultaneous marriages across different cities—requires either sharp satirical commentary or genuine emotional stakes to work, and director fails to deliver either convincingly. The performances appear serviceable but lack the screen presence needed to elevate dialogue that often feels like filler between plot points. What could have been a biting social satire about arranged marriage customs and masculine irresponsibility instead settles for surface-level situational comedy, with the swami's prophecy functioning as a lazy narrative device rather than thematic anchor.

The supporting cast and characterization present the film's most glaring weaknesses. Nisha's arc—from headstrong reject of an arranged match to unknowing second wife—stretches credulity, and the casual treatment of her father's death and Vicky's apparent murder suggests tonal inconsistency bordering on negligence. The seven-year jump into Sher's double life with two sons should be the film's satirical crescendo, yet instead it reads as narrative exhaustion. The box office collapse (₹1.5Cr with -85% ROI) reflects audience rejection that the film's creative shortcomings justify; viewers evidently sensed that neither the direction nor the writing could sustain interest in what remains a

Storyline

So there's this struggling screenwriter named Sher Singh who's head over heels for this beautiful Marathi girl Nisha. Things seem pretty hopeful until he visits a swami who drops a bomb on him—apparently he's going to end up marrying two women! Meanwhile, Nisha's dad has other plans and arranges her marriage to this rich guy Vicky who's been obsessed with her forever.

Just when things couldn't get more complicated, Sher gets a telegram that his family back home has arranged his marriage to a Punjabi village girl named Sweety who's had a crush on him since they were kids. The catch is that Sweety's brother will marry Sher's sister, and since his sister has a disability, this might be her only shot at a good match. So Sher agrees to the marriage to help his sister out and heads back to Mumbai.

But plot twist—Nisha refuses to marry Vicky and threatens to end her life, so her desperate father basically forces her to marry Sher instead. Poor Sher doesn't even get a chance to tell anyone about his first wife! Things get pretty wild when Vicky goes completely nuts trying to kidnap Nisha, and in the chaos, Nisha's father dies and Vicky seemingly gets killed too. So Nisha never finds out the truth, and fast forward seven years—Sher's juggling a secret double life with a son from each marriage!
