MSetup Sood's "Sanam Teri Kasam" attempts to resurrect the earnest romanticism of early-2000s Hindi cinema, but stumbles in execution despite having genuine emotional scaffolding at its core. The central premise—a reformed urban professional pursuing a conservative librarian through literary gestures—carries nostalgic appeal, and there are moments where the film captures an almost tender sincerity. However, Sood's direction lacks the precision needed to elevate melodrama into meaningful cinema. The narrative hinges entirely on contrived misunderstandings and paper-thin character motivations; when Saru's family misinterprets her presence in Inder's room, the film doesn't explore the psychological fallout with any depth, instead treating it as plot machinery rather than human tragedy. The performances, while committed, can't overcome the screenplay's fundamental weakness—characters respond to situations rather than drive them through conviction.

The supporting cast drowns in caricature, particularly Ruby's drunk scene, which aims for dramatic tension but lands as unearned melodrama. What's most frustrating is that the film had room to examine class anxieties, generational conflict, and the friction between modernity and tradition—themes that resonate in Indian cinema's target audience—yet settles for surface-level romance. Storyline

So basically this guy Inder, who's a reformed troublemaker turned successful lawyer, spots this woman Saru who lives in his building. She's this sweet, old-fashioned librarian who everyone thinks is too traditional to marry, which is why her sister can't get married either. The thing is, Inder is totally smitten with her from day one, so he breaks things off with his current girlfriend and starts this adorable but clumsy pursuit of Saru, leaving her little messages in library books that she keeps missing.

Things get pretty messy when Saru secretly asks Inder's ex-girlfriend Ruby to help her get a makeover, but Ruby shows up drunk and causes a huge scene involving a wine bottle. Inder ends up protecting Saru and getting hurt in the process, and then they have to rush off together to get medical help. Of course, the security guard sees them leaving together and spreads rumors around the building.

The situation spirals when Saru's father and the neighbors find her in Inder's room tending to his injuries, and they totally misunderstand what's happening. Her dad gets really upset and throws her out of the house, which becomes this whole big family crisis. It's one of those stories where good intentions lead to pretty complicated misunderstandings and drama.
