5/10Critic Score

There's an earnest attempt at weaving supernatural dread with emotional vulnerability in this film, and for stretches, it genuinely works. The premise—a woman cursed, isolated, desperately trying to protect those around her—carries real tragic weight. The opening scene delivers genuine chills, and the director understands how to build atmosphere in quieter moments. However, the film struggles to maintain the balance between mystery and revelation. Once the supernatural mechanics are exposed, what remains feels thin and repetitive. The investigation scenes drag, and the logic behind Shirin's curse unravels under even casual scrutiny. The romance between Abhay and Shirin, meant to be the emotional anchor, instead becomes uncomfortable—his obsessive stalking is framed as romantic rather than confronted, which undermines any genuine connection we might feel between them.

The performances are earnest but uneven. The lead actress brings vulnerability and pathos to Shirin's isolation, creating moments where you genuinely ache for her burden. However, supporting characters feel underwritten, and Abhay's charisma can't overcome the script's failure to give him meaningful agency beyond being drawn to mystery. The direction, while visually competent with some striking frames of Mauritius, lacks the discipline needed for proper horror-thriller pacing. Jump scares replace genuine tension, and the climax resolves not with catharsis but a whimper. What could have been a haunting meditation

Storyline

So basically, this movie opens with this crazy creepy scene where two guys find something mysterious wrapped up in a pond, and when one of them unwraps it, this ghostly smoke comes pouring out and kills him. Fast forward two years, and we meet this enigmatic singer named Shirin who performs at this upscale club in Mauritius. She's got this weird rule about always leaving before midnight and keeping everyone at arm's length, which obviously makes her seem super suspicious to everyone around her.

Things get dark pretty quickly when this guy Ronnie and his friends start harassing Shirin after she leaves the club one night. Something genuinely terrifying happens to them, and Ronnie ends up dead. A detective investigating the murder immediately puts Shirin in his sights, but her roommate Tanya is convinced she's innocent and pushes her to clear her name, especially for the sake of Shirin's little sister. Meanwhile, a charming businessman named Abhay spots Shirin at a temple and becomes obsessed with learning more about her mysterious life.

Abhay keeps showing up to watch her perform at the club and essentially stalks her around town because he's completely captivated by her. He even picks up a scarf she drops, but weird supernatural stuff starts happening to him too, which is definitely a sign that something paranormal is going on with Shirin. So he decides to team up with Tanya to dig deeper into who Shirin really is and what's causing all these bizarre and dangerous events surrounding her.
