"Rukh" is a film that attempts something genuinely difficult—a coming-of-age mystery that hinges on the unraveling of family secrets and moral ambiguity. Director Atanu Mukherjee deserves credit for resisting easy answers and melodramatic resolutions. The investigation narrative holds promise, and there are moments where the film achieves a quiet, contemplative tone that feels earned rather than forced. The central premise—a young man's disillusionment as he discovers uncomfortable truths about his father—is rich territory, and the film doesn't shy away from the messiness of grief and betrayal.

However, "Rukh" struggles with execution in ways that undermine its ambitions. The pacing feels uncertain, particularly in the second half where the revelations lose momentum rather than building toward genuine emotional crescendo. Some character motivations remain opaque when they should feel inevitable, and the performances, while sincere, occasionally lack the nuance needed to convey the psychological complexity the story demands. Storyline

So this movie follows this eighteen-year-old guy named Dhruv who gets into trouble at school and ends up getting kicked out. His parents ship him off to boarding school to straighten him out, but while he's away, everything falls apart at home. His dad suddenly dies in what seems like a car accident, and Dhruv is completely blindsided by the news since nobody told him anything was going wrong.

Once he hears about his father's death, Dhruv becomes obsessed with figuring out what really happened. He starts digging into his dad's life and business dealings, and his mom keeps trying to get him to let it go and stop asking questions. As he keeps investigating, he uncovers all these secrets about his father's company and learns things about his dad that he never knew existed.

The deeper Dhruv digs, the more complicated everything becomes. He starts suspecting that his father's shady business partner had something to do with his death, but the real story turns out to be way more complex and heartbreaking than he ever expected. His mom was trying to protect him by keeping certain truths hidden, and everything Dhruv believed about what happened gets completely turned upside down.
