Rautu Ka Raaz

This is a competent psychological thriller that plays within familiar Bollywood investigative drama conventions, though it rarely transcends them. Director Anurag Kashyap's sensibilities would have elevated this material, but instead we get a more straightforward procedural that occasionally hints at deeper psychological complexity without fully committing to it. The boarding school setting invokes comparisons to films like *Khosla Ka Ghosla* or *Natarang* in terms of institutional mystery, but *Rautu Ka Raaz* lacks the narrative boldness or visual inventiveness those films possessed. The central conceit—a trauma-haunted investigator unraveling institutional secrets—is sound, but the execution remains largely conventional, hitting predictable story beats rather than surprising us with fresh angles on the genre.

What the film does manage is a reasonably engaging performance from its lead, conveying the inspector's fractured mental state through understated acting rather than theatrical breakdown. The supporting cast holds its own, and there are moments where the boarding school's claustrophobic atmosphere genuinely unsettles. The writing, however, struggles to balance Negi's psychological deterioration with the mystery itself; too often one feels like exposition for the other rather than organic dramatic threads. Compared to Hindi thrillers like *Badlapur* or *Section 375*, which weaponized institutional critique with far greater precision, this film plays things safer and em
