5.2/10Critic Score

Nitesh Tiwari's *Raja Natwarlal* attempts to marry the heist-thriller template with a revenge narrative, and while the ambition is commendable, the execution falters under the weight of its own convolutions. Emraan Hashmi carries the film with his characteristic charm and intensity, making Raja's desperation feel genuine even when the plot mechanics creak under scrutiny. The chemistry between Hashmi and Humaima Malick occasionally sparks, though their romance never transcends the perfunctory. What truly holds the film together is Paresh Rawal's measured turn as the con-artist mentor Yogi—there's a knowing weariness to his performance that suggests he understands the genre's inherent ridiculousness better than the film itself does.

The core problem lies in pacing and narrative bloat. The heist itself, which should be the centerpiece, feels rushed and underexplained, with too many moving parts introduced and abandoned without proper payoff. The South African setting offers visual variety, but Tiwari doesn't extract genuine tension from the cat-and-mouse dynamic between Raja and the antagonist Varda (a largely invisible presence). The film wants to be slick and clever, yet settles for predictable twists and convenient plot resolutions that undermine its own stakes. There are moments—particularly in the quieter character exchanges—where one senses a tighter, smarter film struggling to break free.

For a director whose recent work has shown promise, this represents a step backwar

Storyline

So basically, there's this charming small-time crook named Raja who's been running scams left and right with his buddy Raghav. He's got his heart set on this bartender girl named Ziya, and he wants to score big so she can quit her job and they can be together. He and Raghav cook up this scheme to steal a massive amount of cash from some dangerous criminals, and it actually works! But here's where things go sideways—turns out that money belonged to this super wealthy and seriously ruthless guy named Varda who's based in South Africa, and he does not take kindly to being robbed.

Before Raja can even catch his breath, Varda's people track down Raghav and kill him in cold blood. Raja is devastated and furious, knowing he has to do something about it. He reaches out to this legendary con artist named Yogi who Raghav used to mention, hoping to get some help planning his revenge. It takes some convincing, but Yogi finally agrees to team up with him and help take down Varda once and for all.

The two of them start training together and assembling a crew of skilled con artists to pull off an even more elaborate scheme. Their target? Taking down Varda and making him pay for what he did. So they pack their bags, head to Cape Town where Varda is holed up, and set their sights on getting their revenge through the ultimate con.
