Rajpal Yadav's *Phoonk 2* arrives as a sequel that understands the assignment of escalation, yet struggles with the fundamental grammar of horror cinema. Where the original wielded atmosphere and creeping dread as weapons, this follow-up leans heavily into possession theatrics and jump-scares that feel borrowed from every exorcist film in the last two decades—from *The Exorcist* to *Raaz* to even *Insidious*. The narrative spine is serviceable enough: a cursed doll, a vengeful spirit, a family isolated in a picturesque location. Rajpal Yadav directs with technical competence, and there are moments where the sound design and editing genuinely unsettle. However, the possession sequences involving Aarti (the lead actress) rarely transcend the performative; the body-horror and contortions feel obligatory rather than earned. The inclusion of multiple exorcists suggests the filmmaker couldn't commit to a single narrative thread, diluting tension instead of building it. The supporting cast members function as cannon fodder—their deaths occasionally grotesque but narratively hollow.

What rescues *Phoonk 2* from being entirely forgettable is its restraint in certain key moments and the family dynamics that occasionally peek through the supernatural machinery. Storyline

So basically, this guy Rajiv gets a new job and moves his family to this gorgeous place near the woods and beach. He's there with his wife Aarti, their two kids Raksha and Rohan, and a housemaid. His sister Arushi and her husband Ronnie come to visit, and everything seems pretty normal at first. But then the kids find this creepy doll in the woods and bring it inside the house, which is when things start going seriously wrong.

Turns out the doll is connected to this ghost named Madhu who's come back from the dead seeking revenge on Rajiv. She starts possessing Aarti and making her behave strangely, and Rajiv quickly figures out that this angry spirit is back to haunt them. The family calls in an exorcist named Manja to help, but Madhu ends up killing him in a brutal way. When that doesn't work out, they reach out to another exorcist called Jeeva, but he basically tells Rajiv that running away is their best bet.

Rajiv's friend Vinay tries to help by searching for someone named Anshuman who apparently knows about Madhu from way back, but Vinay gets killed in a car crash after spotting the ghost. Things keep getting worse as Madhu continues her reign of terror, taking down anyone who tries to stand in her way. The whole family is caught in this nightmare where the possessed doll becomes the instrument of this vengeful spirit's plan.
