7/10Critic Score

Rajkumar Hirani's "Phir Hera Pheri" is that rare Hindi comedy that actually earns its laughs through clever writing and impeccable timing rather than slapstick desperation. The film works because it understands something fundamental: comedy thrives on contrast, and there's genuine humor in watching three wealthy men descend into poverty. Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, and Paresh Rawal form a chemistry that feels lived-in and natural—they're not performing *at* you, they're performing *with* each other. The supporting cast, particularly the con artist angle and Pappu's involvement with Tiwari, threads tension through what could've been a one-note affair. Yes, the plot is paper-thin and the romance angles feel perfunctory, but Hirani's direction keeps the momentum brisk enough that you don't have time to pick holes in the logic. The real strength lies in the screenplay's ability to balance heartfelt moments—each character's underlying loss—with genuine comic set pieces that don't rely on cringe humor.

Where the film stumbles is in its resolution and some of the middle-act padding. Once the con is revealed and the stakes are laid out, the narrative loses steam, padding scenes with repetitive gags that don't land as hard. The ending, while tidy, feels slightly rushed and contrived, as if Hirani ran out of ideas and needed to wrap things up. The romantic subplot with Akshay's character is particularly hollow—it exists because formula demands it, not because the story needs it. Thes

Storyline

So basically, these three guys—Shyam, Raju, and Baburao—are living it up in this fancy mansion with tons of money, but they're all dealing with some pretty heavy personal stuff underneath all that wealth. Shyam lost his girlfriend in an accident, Raju lost his mom, and honestly, Baburao just seems to have lost his mind altogether. They're throwing money around like crazy, buying everything they can think of.

One day, Raju meets this woman pretending to be a bank manager who pitches him this scheme where she'll double whatever money he gives her in just three weeks. It sounds too good to be true, but he gets convinced and ropes the other two into it. They start scraping together cash—first getting some from each other, then selling off their entire bungalow—and even convince this small-time criminal guy named Pappu to throw in money too. They manage to pool together a crore rupees to hand over to this con artist.

Fast forward three weeks and, surprise surprise, they've been completely scammed. These guys are now totally broke and have to move out of their fancy mansion into a tiny apartment building. To make matters worse, Pappu is in serious trouble because he borrowed the money he invested from this terrifying gangster named Tiwari, and there's no way he can pay it back now. Everything pretty much falls apart from there, and that's where the real chaos begins!
