4/10Critic Score

This film is a mess of contradictions that can't quite decide whether it's condemning patriarchal cruelty or celebrating it. On one hand, we get a genuinely compelling premise: a woman so devoted to her worthless husband that she refuses another man's genuine love, a scenario that could've been tragic and thought-provoking. On the other hand, the narrative keeps undercutting itself by asking us to root for Kishan—a man who abandons his wife at a railway station—to eventually "come around" and realize her worth now that she's become conventionally beautiful. The direction is pedestrian, treating the story's darker elements with the levity of a rom-com when it deserves real weight. The performances are serviceable but uninspired; there's no depth to Kishan's character arc, just a man being dragged through circumstances toward redemption he doesn't earn.

What actually works is the friendship between Radha and Chando—it feels organic and carries genuine warmth, and when Chando slaps Deepak out of marital loyalty despite being invisible to her own husband, there's a moment of real emotional intelligence. But these moments are drowned in melodrama and a fundamental failure of the screenplay to interrogate its own themes. The film wants to celebrate female sacrifice while also suggesting that a makeover and jealousy are what finally make a woman "worthy" of her husband's attention. That's not poetic irony; it's lazy storytelling masquerading as depth. The climax apparently tries to

Storyline

Kishan's a dreamer trapped by his domineering father, so when their family friend Ramlal struggles to marry off his daughter Chando, Bhim seizes the chance to force a union without asking his son! Kishan takes one look at this plain-spoken, dark-skinned girl and absolutely despises her—so much so he refuses to even sleep in the same bed as her, though sweet, innocent Chando has no idea he can't stand her. When Kishan gets transferred to Mumbai for work, he sees it as his escape route and bolts, leaving his miserable wife behind.

In the glitzy Mumbai office, Kishan meets the stunning Radha and falls hard, marrying her without a second thought—conveniently forgetting to mention his first wife! But his controlling father forces him to bring Chando to the city, and when she arrives, Kishan cruelly abandons her at the railway station to rush off with Radha instead. Somehow Chando ends up working as a maid in their own house, and here's where the magic happens—Radha and Chando become best friends, and Radha gives her a complete makeover that transforms her into a breathtaking beauty! Even Kishan notices, and jealousy kicks in when his brother-in-law Deepak falls head over heels for the newly gorgeous Chando.

Chando's absolute devotion to her husband—even one who despises her—is genuinely heartbreaking and beautiful; she slaps Deepak when he proposes because she's already married, regardless of how little Kishan values her! The twist lands perfectly when both Radha and Deepak are stunned to learn the truth about Kishan and Chando's real marriage, forcing everyone to confront the ugly reality of his cruelty and Chando's unwavering, selfless love that transforms everyone around her!
