Naam O Nishan

Review

6.4/10Critic Score

There's a raw, pulsating energy to "Naam O Nishan" that grabs you by the throat and refuses to let go—a story about a man whose entire world crumbles not in one catastrophic moment, but in a relentless cascade of betrayals. What works magnificently here is the emotional core: watching Suraj grapple with the shattering realization that his identity, his love, his very paternity are all elaborate deceptions creates a genuine sense of anguish that resonates deeply. The director understands that revenge isn't just about action sequences; it's about watching someone you root for lose everything and claw back from the abyss. The twist regarding Vanisha's true nature lands with real impact because the film invests us in their romance first, making the betrayal sting precisely as it should.

However, the film stumbles when it tries to juggle too many threads without weaving them into a coherent tapestry. The uncle Jaspal subplot feels undercooked, the exposition regarding Suraj's criminal lineage arrives in clumsy chunks, and the pacing occasionally sacrifices character moments for plot mechanics. The performances hint at greater depth—there's desperation and fury lurking beneath the surface—but they're not given enough room to breathe between action set pieces. Zoravar functions more as a plot device than a fully realized antagonist, and Geeta's death, while meant to be shocking, feels more inevitable than tragic because we barely knew her.

Storyline

Suraj's got it all—wealthy family, a cop dad, and a cushy job as a Police Inspector—but everything implodes when his uncle Jaspal moves in and somehow becomes so controversial that his sister's engagement gets called off! When Suraj demands answers, his dad clams up and Jaspal mysteriously vanishes into thin air. Then Suraj meets Vanisha, falls hard, but gets framed for a murder he didn't commit and lands in jail. A woman named Geeta swoops in with evidence to clear his name, but before Suraj can even catch his breath, she's killed, and he's out for blood.

The twist hits like a ton of bricks—Vanisha isn't the dream girl he thought she was, she's actually plotting to kill him! And here's the kicker: his whole life is a lie because Sangram isn't his real father at all. Nope, Suraj's actually the son of a notorious bandit named Jarnail Singh. This revelation tears through his world, but it gets even messier when Jarnail's rival, a brutal enforcer called Zoravar, learns about Suraj's bloodline and decides he's the perfect target for elimination.

Now Suraj's fighting on every front—dodging his girlfriend's blade, uncovering his true parentage, and facing off against a ruthless criminal who sees him as either a threat or a bargaining chip. The stakes skyrocket as he realizes trust is a luxury he can't afford and that his dangerous heritage might be the only weapon he's got left to survive. It's a relentless ride of betrayal, revelation, and revenge that keeps you guessing until the final frame!
