Review
Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury's *Murder Mubarak* is a competent whodunit that understands the appeal of a locked-room mystery—or in this case, a locked-club one. The film benefits from a sharply drawn ensemble cast inhabiting a Delhi country club where privilege breeds resentment in equal measure. The premise itself is sound: a despicable gym trainer murdered during Tambola night, with nearly every character holding a grudge. Chowdhury keeps the narrative moving with reasonable efficiency, and there's genuine craft in how he seeds clues and red herrings throughout, allowing the audience to play detective alongside ACP Bhavani Singh.
However, the film struggles with tonal consistency and character development. While the investigation mechanics work adequately, the character work feels surface-level—we see their secrets, but rarely their depths. The performances are uneven; some cast members elevate thin material through sheer screen presence, while others seem to be sleepwalking through exposition. The twist, when it arrives, is competent rather than clever, and the film's commentary on class and morality, promised by its setting, never quite crystallizes into something meaningful. There's also a sense that the director is more interested in maintaining mystery than in building genuine emotional stakes.
What *Murder Mubarak* does well is entertain without pretension. It's not trying to be *Rashomon*, and that honesty counts for something. The pacing is brisk, the cinematography ca
Storyline
So basically, there's this fancy old-money club in Delhi where all the rich and snobbish folks hang out, and everyone's obsessed with looking down on others. You've got this whole cast of characters—some are dealing with their own issues like addiction or failed marriages, others are just there showing off their wealth and status. There's this super creepy gym trainer named Leo who's basically sleeping around with every woman at the club, and honestly, he's the kind of guy nobody really likes.
One day during Tambola night—which is basically bingo for the upper class—everyone gets introduced and you see how dysfunctional this whole group really is. The next morning, Leo ends up dead when a heavy barbell mysteriously falls on his neck at the gym. So now the police get involved with this tough ACP named Bhavani Singh and her partner to figure out what actually happened.
What makes this whole thing interesting is that literally almost everyone at the club had a reason to want Leo dead. Like, he was creepy and manipulative, so you've got plenty of suspects walking around. The mystery unfolds as they try to piece together whether it was an accident or if someone actually wanted him gone, and everyone's got something to hide about their relationships and secrets at the club.
